Mining Stock Education Interview

April 14, 2025

Every time I sat down to write a quick post to promote this interview something would change, sending the markets careening off in one direction or the other.

Anyway here’s the interview. It’s full of stock picks and I think it turned out well. If you prefer an audio version, listen on Spotify or iTunes, although it can be found wherever you get your podcasts.

Glad we focused on stock picks rather than macro. This interview was recorded on the morning of April 2.

I’ve been droning on about these Kinross contingent value rights for three years. The Koala did a much better job of articulating the risk-reward setup in a single X post, with supporting numbers to boot.

Here’s the X thread with my investment case for Star Royalties, another one I’ve been tracking on Substack and Twitter/X for years. Thanks to Tariff Wars I finally got my price. But this is just another sum-of-the-parts investment if I’m wrong about management monetizing either Greenstar or the royalty portfolio. Several people helped get me there on Star over the last year. Thanks in particular to Steven who arranged an in-person meeting with Alex and Dmitry.

And here’s the presentation by Comstock Inc. CEO Corrado De Gasperis at the 2024 New Orleans Investment Conference that I was referring to.

Market’s tanking: What now?

The whole world has decided the U.S. government has no idea what it’s doing. Buy gold is about as close as I’ll get to making a macro call. The only other thing I’d add is that all politicians suck. Deal with it or stop trading equities.

Whatever the policy goals are, there’s a competence issue when it comes to execution. I’ve decided to focus on bottom up analysis with a focus on gold as stateless money. This Fidelity chart nicely shows there’s no way to predict what’s to come.

When the facts change, I change my mind. With stagflation on the way, I dumped my starter position in Base Carbon. I’m also looking to sell out of my recent purchase of Metals X. For now, everything else stays.

I’m long St. Barbara, $SBM.AX.

The market inefficiency with gold developers gets magnified when we’re talking about cleaning up a previous management team’s mess. The market cap barely exceeds the cash balance.

$SBM.AX is fully funded for its share of growth capital after the

@VukasinPekovic @YellowLabLife We all seem to focused on the geopolitical and structural deficits of many minor commodities. Copper is one that I believe is unique. Its demand is being driven by ideological energy policy and augmented by technology. As a metal it is irreplaceable at current prices and as such

"The size of Berg means that project finance, a major partner, streaming, offtake and government support could all become relevant. The eventual ownership structure will matter more to shareholders than a few tenths of a dollar in diesel prices."

Berg is more likely than the average PFS-stage project to become a profitable operating mine. The orebody and economics are compelling. The biggest remaining hurdle is finding a partner capable of permitting, financing and building a C$4.7bn project. Just my opinion.
